Tir na nOg is a game dedicated to balance, challenge and immersion. Our MUD is based on the DeepMUD codebase which is a descendant of the MUD written by the ROM Consortium. We have incorporated as many bug fixes as we could find, then added a few choice pieces of public code before tailoring the game to our own concepts. In many ways the code has been back-dated to the standards of the Merc team, Michael Chastain, Michael Quan, and Mitchell Tse.
The theme has been changed from Nordic to Celtic. The "stock" areas have been edited and rebalanced. Many areas from ROMLama have been added in addition to these original areas and there are a growing number of new and unique areas from our staff. The entire project, both building and coding, was conceived as an integrated design before being built. This provides an internal logic to the world and allows a simplicity that makes learning the game less frustrating. However, while highly recommended as a first game to new players because of this simplicity, Tir na nOg is intended as a final resting place for old DIKU players that have tired of the "more is better" philosophy that pervades the "highly modified ROM" genre.
